Description

An illustration I came up with for 3D World (current issue 101) for an article they are running about the growing use of the Mac Pro in 3D studios, and dispelling many of the myths surrounding it. I modeled and partially rigged the alien a couple of years ago, and finally got a chance to use it :) Cinema 4D Adam :)

Yepp, great concept and render...but probably THEY have more advanced computers than a Mac...:-)

I cant argue the fact that they are becoming more popular cause I have a G5 decked out here at my office and the rest of our art department has macs....problem is I $%*@#$%-ing HATE them! I would give my left arm for a PC of half the power of this metal paperweight. I use my pc laptop here instead just to drive my boss nuts(he hates pc's).....well, enough of my ranting and raving.. The render looks great and the idea is very cool. But can be taken a few ways ;) Great work Adam!!! -chachi

Too funny... :o) Do I detect a bit of SSS in that render? Very nice subtle touch that really sets this a notch and a half above the rest. Very well done, sir!

Thanks guys! - yes Moe - SSS in the skin of the alien - just a subtle amount to add a bit of translucency! Adam

Very nice use of a volumetric spot. You also did a spot on job of texturing this.

I guess this explains why Macs are so damn expensive. The shipping costs alone must be a killer. :) Spot on lighting. Looks like the alien you used for the old CGtalk challenge.

Awesome rendering and concept. 10 stars. ((Macs expensive? Come on, that's no longer the case. Macs have been comparably priced for a long time. Which explains why I'm back on Mac!))

Really nice looking scene Adam. Just a couple of techincal details that need adressing, although I'm sure you have already submitted your work to the magazine...I live here in New Mexico, and was In Roswell for three months. So here's my Two cents worth. The Saguaro cactus, that tall fella with the arms, does not grow anywhere in New Mexico. It grows only in the Sonoran desert in Arizona, California, and Northern Mexico. Also, The New Mexico sky is famous for the hord of bright stars that are visible at night. So, you are missing a sky full of stars. I think the scene is great though. Nice idea! Ryan-

Nice scene ! That would surely explain how they used a Mac to hack into the mothership in Independance Day :)
