Description

In 1948, Richard Knerr and Arthur "Spud" Melin started a company called Wham-O. They brought us the hula hoop, the frisbee, the superball, the slip'n'slide and other great products. Mr. Knerr passed away last week at age 82 and it made me think how profound an impact he and his partner(who passed away in 2002) had on several generations of kids and adults. All based on fun. And all without batteries, or electronics. Ah, the good old days. Reading the history of Wham-O, there's a story about a promotion in Australia in the 60's where they dropped a giant Superball from a 35 story building. Oh yes, I remember when they introduced the Hula Hoop in 1961. It was a craze that spread across the nation. Thanks for the Blast from the Past. Great Pose.
