Description

This captive Red Billed Toucan or sometimes called the White Throated Toucan is a near passerine or highland bird, is a very rare sight in the wild often heard rather than seen. Like other toucans, the White-throated Toucan is brightly marked and has a huge bill. It has a total length of 55-60 cm (21-24 in) and weighs 600 g (22 oz). The only species of toucan that surpass it in size is the Toco Toucan. It has a black plumage with a white throat and breast bordered below with a narrow red line. The rump is bright yellow and the crissum is red. The bare skin around the eye is blue. The bill has a yellow tip, upper ridge and base of the upper mandible, and the base of the lower mandible is blue. The rest of the bill is mainly black in cuvieri species and mainly reddish-brown in the tucanus, with intergrades showing a mixed colouration. Males are larger and longer-billed than females, but otherwise the sexes are alike. As always thanks for taking time to look and any comments you care to make..

Danny, this is great. A little different in coloring than I would expect in a tucan so I have learned something. This pov really gives you an idea of the size of that beak! Excellent shot.

Gret clarity on that lovely bird Danny. I like the inquisitive look to his eye as he tilts his head. Well done.

So is it tropical or arctic. I confuse Toucans with Puffins. Sure there is the bright colors and I've never seen a puffin in person.
