Description

I've had the pleasure to work with the SF writers Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, both great writers and great folks, for several years now. They are published widely by large publishing houses, but they also publish their own ChapBooks and 2 collections of their short fiction. I've done the covers for both the collections, this one being the most recently published cover, for Liaden Universe Companion 2. The Liaden universe is a rich fictional setting. The Liaden race posses very advanced technology, which they use to build highly advanced ships, like the Liaden Scout in the foreground. Much more work-a-day are the big bulky terran freighters, carrying trade goods from system to system. The ones here are modular, their cargo pods strung back behind the command and propulsion units in front. This piece was modeled , textured and rendered in Lightwave 8.5, with SFX and the background starfield and nebula created in Photoshop. To find out more about Lee and Miller's fiction, go to http://www.korval.com Thanks for taking a look! By the way, the title of the piece refers to how Liaden Scouts routinely approach EVERYTHING.

Excellent image - the spacecraft, planet and background. Everything. (the freighters do look like lobsters, though)

Sorry I'm late to the party. I've seen this image of yours so many times that it's a challenge to be objective about it. That said it's certainly one of your best. There's a polish to it that rises above many of your other works - a crisp certainty of design and an place. The color choices - especially the brick red ships next to the glowing blue nebula - make a striking impression, along with the looming ringed planet. Very nice - I hope it's done well selling the book for them.
