Description

Sorry, I can't translate the title - it's a play of words. Regarding Terrain structures Vue cannot compete with TG2, not even with the help of Procedural Terrains. So I tried to create at least some kind of goodlooking rock structures with a selfmade Displacement Map. This scene pushed my computer to its limits - 5 Volumetric Lights, Godrays, Global Illumination, Displacement Mapping, Spectral Atmosphere and 947 million (!) polygons in the fore- and background. Available system resources: 12 % ;-) Rendered in Vue 6 Infinite on "Ultra" with some minor color correction in PS Elements. It took 41,5 hours on a Core 2 Quad with 8 GB RAM to render the scene. And you thought TG2 was slow... ;-) Thanks for viewing. Best viewed in full size for maximum detail. ;-) Danke f¼rs Anschauen. Die Details kommen im Vollbild am Besten zur Geltung. ----------------------------------- Credit goes to Linda Daireaux for her Grassy Places, to gaetan blanchette for the Electric Poles and to Dark Anvil for the Barn, all available from C3d (the bridge, too).

The League for the Protection of Enslaved and Overworked Personal Computers have your address, Daniel. Be warned your peripherals could be confiscated.... ;o) This is a very nice, panoramic shot. The clouds look a bit jumbled / jagged, for some reason. The composition is fine, water very good, but will never be as good as TG2. I try to keep things simple with TERRAGEN style skies and water, and often terrain. I never use any more than the 'final' setting. If i start a render and the estimate comes up as so many hours, or so many days, I silently reprimand the program, stop the render, and simplifiy it. Eye candy is good for you. With Ash Wednesday coming up next week, I would have to wait weeks, till Easter, for a render sometimes... I have only (?) 2 Gb of RAM, but VUE 6I never locks up on me now. Yes 'God rays' and the rest are nice, but just take too long. I use my PC for other things, while VUE is running. Regards, John.

You built a very nice place. The lighting is great and so is the composition. The water on the foreground looks really nice but in the background, when looked in full size view, there seems to be some aliasing. There's also heavy aliasing in the electric cables. The clouds look grainy. I would say Ultra mode is not good enough for this scene because the anti-aliasing of this mode is not good enough for what you have here. I would recommend render user settings and increase the AA samples and quality. Ultra mode is also not good in another way: it has advanced effects quality at 77%, which increases render times but doesn't really give you any advantage in this particular scene. I would say around 40% would be ok for this. Having said all this, I must say I really like this image. It has a good sense of depth and scale and, like I said, it's a lovely place. Regarding terrains in Vue, I think you are right, and that's why I use GeoControl2 to create terrains for later use in Vue. Anyway, your terrain here looks really good.
