Description

This picture taken in a workshop of umbrellas, at Borsang near Chiangmai, North-West Thailand, shows a woman doing a typical Thai activity. Umbrellas are made of painted or oiled paper, or of silk, and they have a bamboo framing. The simplest ones are not decorated. The most beautiful show flower patterns, butterflies flying, or dragons… Umbrellas are used to protect oneself from wind and rain. At Borsang, in January, during the umbrellas’ festival, the craftsmen sell their production. This is then a wonderful color show.

Excellent documentary photo with a good depth render. The contrast is not at its best, but you had bad photo conditions, so I think that, except if you could use a studio installation (and it was simply unthinkable), you could simply not take a better shot. It is great to understand the daily occupation of this people, and how they are very serious in their work. I also appreciate your comment about this image. Excellent, 5+!

Even if I was conscious of some problems of this picture, I wanted to load it because it is meaningful of a typical Thai activity. All your constructive comments will be welcomed.

I love these type umbrellas, a beauty in themselves. I would bet the festival with all sorts of decorated umbrellas is a site to behold!! This is a wonderful photograph, much of the story is in the colors on her brush and fingers. So many works of art she must have created.

Bravo, tu as toutes ces qualités.
