Description

Okay, so I spent Super Bowl Sunday on my weekend science (fiction) project and not watching the game. Shows how much of an ubergeek I am, I guess. Well, so far only two people expressed an interest in an annotated view, but I couldn't help myself. In any case, at least I know someone is interested, and two other people did add me as a favorite artist after that last image, even if it only has 29 views so far. So I have an excuse. Here is the Archimedes in various different views, including a partially decomposed annotated main image. All rendered in Bryce. All the text and annotations was put together in Visio (hey, I gotta work with the tools I have) and it should print as a nice 11X17 image. (I have to *ahem* test those printers at work to see if it looks okay) For those who want to try to print it, I put a zip (2MB) of the Visio (created in 2007, but 2003 should work) at : http://www.geir.org/transfer/Archimedes.zip I think this is a feasible, no "super tech" design, but any and all rocket science errors are my own. I only made it through the first two years of Engineering-Physics and that was over twenty years ago. Half of what I've learned about rocket science since comes from Wikipedia. I explained the design a bit in my previous image posting. All I can say about the feasibility (assuming no math errors) is that the mass is probably too low. And if you have to add more payload mass, then you'll have to add more power and radiator mass, and for every chunk of non-fuel mass, you have to add another two chunks of fuel mass. So pretty soon the three hundred ton ship becomes six hundred tons, and the people in the home district start making jokes about how much the "probe to Uranus" is costing and then the politicians start looking to pull the plug. So to speak. Anyway, the story is the image on this one. Not expecting a whole lot of views, but for those of you who take a gander, thanks for viewing, and your comments are always welcome.

Thats a nice elegantly simple design. I like the real science aspect of it. Much more real than what I use in my own stuff. Looks like time well spent to me, but then I'm not really into football either. :-) Pagrin :-)

Tech-wise you seem to have covered all the bases. Nice layout!

this is one of your best images yet! not only is the design quite practical, it is also presented in a very compelling way. bravo on a job well done. would love to see your other ships done in this same illustration style

Looks to me like you chose the right use of your weekend free time...this is a very well thought out concept and design, presented in a concise manner that makes me wish I knew more about the physics of space travel, instead of creating what just looks cool. You have shown a lot of consideration in your design,an inspiration to all of us...kudos my friend!!

As one of the 29, I am glad to see the annointed version!

Hah! I've spent this Saturday not watching the Wales v. Scotland match. This is a great image, and an incredibly well thought-out hard-science design. Also, I'm a sucker for annotated views.

Very well thought out and intuitive. A work of art with a hard science background. Well done!
