Now this one is a real challenge for the dynamic speculator!! It doesn't have sails set and is long before the first use of gyro stabilizers in the twenties yet the mastis absolutely vertical and the deck plane in water that clearly is while not quite a light chop still moving. It isn't a river. The paddle wheels of course don't like it when the ship rolls and puts more strain on one than the other so there is plenty of motivation to avoid normal ship motion. There is a certain Prussian discipline to how it all comes out.

There's a big river 40 yards from my front door. Sometimes there's just a ripple on the surface, sometimes it looks like this, depending on the water coming off the hills. I even use it to produce water textures of various kinds and nature. It's a good idea here to take into account the sharpness and angle of light. It's a clue to the possibility of the structure of the scene being more open than is at first apparent. I intended this to give the impression of the beginning of an adventure... more of a coastal estuary kind of feel... the travelers heading off into the heart of darkness, kind of thing. Thanks for all the comments!

Reading your earlier comments and description of your fantastic render, this gives me a feeling; especially the foliage, of early 20th century visitors beginning their journey thru the Panama Canal Zone. There is much to look at and appreciate with this one.
