Chinese New Year 1, for Richardphotos by Elcet

I dedicate this image to Richardphotos, a very talented photographer who as a special interest for ultrawideangle shots, as this is a typical ultrawideangle photo too. And I invite everybody to visit his beautiful gallery, which shows not only great photos but also very original fractal drawings.
Techdata: Nikon D70 first model with Sigma 4-5.6/10-20 Pro EX lens at shortest focal length (102° diagonal angle), 1/60s at f/8 aperture-priority automatic, shadow white balance, ISO 640. Serious postwork in Photoshop CS3 to eliminate with the Clone Stamp an advertisement in the center of the image. Hue/Saturation and levels enhancement (Dark and Light Tones). Sharpening Filter acting in Lab Mode on the Grey Channel.
Note about the so-called distortion of wideangle lenses: as you can notice here, the heads of people who are near the borders of the image, which should look rather circular, are seen as ellipses, the big axis of which are directed from the center of the image to the periphery. But if our eye could see according to this very wide angle (102°), this would appear us exactly like through this lens, therefore we cannot really speak of distortion. You can do that in 3D (e.g. in Poser) as well, if you want, this could be excellent for comics! True distortion appears when a straight line is seen as a curve, as in some zooms or fisheye lenses, but it is not the case here, this Sigma lens is virtually distortion-free.

by coincidence I took pictures of some Chinese dragons yesterday when I went to eat lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant and more so I used my Sigma10-20 lens also.unless I need a telephoto I tend to use the 10-20 for many things because of being able to focus close and still get a large area.zoomed in there is no degradation.I may post one capture tomorrow of the celebration. they started outside and entered the oriental market in the same building of the restaurant.they went to all parts, I suppose to bless the store or to scare the demons away.I was surprised that many of the people in the dragons were not orientals but Caucasians.afterwards they went to the restaurant and I was glad I was already finished eating because the drums and cymbals were very loud you capture an excellent moment

This is a very high quality photograph worthy of National Geographic magazine. Really well composed with a perfect allowance for the available light. Beautifully done!

Happy year of the Rat! The Chinese zodialogical sign of my younger son. The wide ange shot makes for an interesting image around the edges.

Assez surprenant. Je n'ai pas lu tout ton texte sur les grands-angles (honte)mais, personnellement, depuis des décennies, je n'ai rien contre ces engins, distorsion ou pas (j'aime assez ça de toute façon).

Quelle perspective impressionnante !

Wonderful image of a great way to relax. Love how you got the assortment of dragon heads in this shot as well. Really well composed as always. 5+
