Description

Well, as promised, here is a detail schematic of the Thule, explorer of Pluto and family. I'm not sure if I'm going to do something like this for all my spaceships (it took me most of the day), but we'll see how popular it is. Various views and cross sections are done in Bryce, tables and data from Excel and all composited in Visio. The Visio file (11X17) is also available at: http://www.geir.org/transfer/Thule.zip The story is in the image and text.... (But of course, I'll keep doing little stories for the artistic images - and hey, I just managed to become a finalist in last quarter's the Writers of the Future contest - so now I have a 3 in 8 chance of winning a prize and getting to go to the other half of the workshop in 2009 and getting a trophy to use as a bookend with my Illustrators award - guess I'd better keep on writing stuff too) Edit: Fixed the bad crop job - was counting on Visio to make a nice export (not) - too busy trying to watch Torchwood on BBC America to notice the white edges. grrrr... Second Edit: Found a serious math error that also effects stats on the previous schematic - fixing this one with proper fuel mass and engine stats.

One question (which, I guess, points out my nerdliness as well- LOL) about the crew commanders listed on your schematic- Steed and Tate. Is that as in John Steed (Patrick MacNee) of THE AVENGERS and actor Nick Tate (Eagle pilot Captain Alan Carter) of SPACE: 1999? Just wondering. LOL

I love this sort of presentation! I wish more spaceship artists would do this for their best designs.

Uncannily prophetic work of art. The term 'sci-fi' really doesn't apply; you're a futurist!

I have a long way to go before catching up on what's in your gallery, but I'm glad to see this (and other works you've done). It's all incredibly impressive and the artistry and real-world detail you've included in this is fantastic! I'm reminded of the work of Gregory Benford and other hard SF writers as I see and read your stuff, and well...no bones about it, that's a compliment. Great stuff here!
