Description

Most of us, at one time or another, give some thought to where we would like to be "laid to rest". Even in death, we somehow don't want to be left in a place that seems unappealing or distant. But many people have succumbed to illness or accident in some very bleak places; they remain in those remote landscapes for good, becoming part of the nature of that place- with the sun, wind, snow and rain as their only visitors. Terragen Tech Preview, Photoshop, and World Machine. There are two terrains here, although one is almost obscured by the clouds, and I modeled and textured the headstone myself. I hope you are enjoying your weekend, and thanks for viewing and comments.

Agreed... Steve Fossett comes to mind. Hopefully, he won't share the fate of Ameila and he will be found so he can be honored...

Paul, this is among your finest works. The realism is outstanding; and, your words are well written. They bring to mind the lost aircraft that disappeared last year somewhere in Nevada.

Well, I was enjoying my weekend until you depressed the hell out of me! I kid of course, the visual message of your render is striking- the realism of the environment combined with the utter desolation and lonely feeling of this single tombstone lost in a land without any signs of vegetation or people, it really makes one think about a lot of things. I know most of my work is T&A pinup renders, but yours is always thought provoking and vividly expressive- I only wish I had your vision Paul. This is yet another one of your masterpieces!

A very striking image, love that desolation! You speak true words and they expressed my thoughts when I posted my "Samos #70"!

A nice composition and render, Paul. A good use of TG2 ( may it eventually be issued in the full version, soon... ;o) ) I don't find this evocative scene daunting at all, but then with a few near-things to my own credit, I do not mind thinking about it. With the number of funerals I participate in, at my local church, I find them affirming and hopeful as well as being celebrations of the person's life.. As a child I would wander, during my summer holidays, in a landscape little changed since prehistory, and feel those places with a 'presence', if I can call it that. Having an old iron age 'cashel' to play in and around, old ruins, and finding shell caches in caves over a mile from the present shoreline, I got used to living with a land that had a 'history'. That included where people were buried, and or met their death. Most of the time I encountered a warm 'frisson'. Regards, John.

Love the perspective. Melancholy, but not depressing. We all eventually end up forgotten and return to the dust from which we were created...but the wind...the wind knows our name. Beautiful post all the way round, Paul.

A wonderfully composed and balanced scene; excellent Terragen all round. Nice sentiments if you believe in the dualistic notion of life/death as reality.

There's room enough for a few of us in this place. Now that I've booked, I can't wait to die :) Joke apart, this is a gorgeous work (terrain, textures and light) on a great idea. And exactly the kind of title I love. Gorgeous!
