Renderosity has opened a whole new world to me, its a fantastic place and have had some brilliant support from many new friends.  I retired from work very early through ill health so I took to photography from the very basics.
Since joining I have grown in confidence with my photography and I now think because of RR that I take it a little more seriously. I started off here using a Fuji Finepix 6500fd, it took some great pictures but I'm hooked now so I have now(April 2008) bought a DSLR SAMSUNG DX10 and having fun learning the settings etc. ( these things take me a while lol)ÂÂ
I am so fortunate to be with a wonderful person in my life, Sylvia. She is not just my partner but of course she's also my best friend. Previously I have been married but seperated a few years ago and have two fantastic children. I NOW have two fantastic grandchildren !!!
My interests are photography, i have had a dabble at Acrylic painting, and I enjoy long walks out in the countryside.      I also have an interest in anything historical.  I want to have a sample of just about everything there is in photography, who knows what the future holds!
Thanks for calling by.    Alan

Great pic! I love your story about accents, all my family are from oop north, Mums side from Leeds, and Grandads side from Rochdale. Mum moved to sunny Bournemouth to have me!

its funny how the different accents and pronunciation's are so different around the uk even as little as 20 miles there is marked difference ! i just starting singing "any old iron" to ashleigh and you should see the look on her face ,but with the scarf on this gentlemans neck reminded me of it :o)..excellent capture alan mick

A wonderful capture dear Alan. I understand the difference in accents. I am a Lancashure lass, exiled in North Yorkshire. Still have my Lancashire accent though!!! Hugs for a happy day. Diane.xx

I know you couldn't move it Alan, but you could have washed that dirty car in the background, even canal water is cleaner than that thing. roflmao. Love the capture and the narrative, but then you know how much I like a narrative with a pic. I have passed through Sowerby Bridge I don't know how many times, but have never had a walk round the place. When I was 15 working for Whittles Bakery, we used to stop here every morning five days a week for breakfast, it was my first job from leaving school and I could only afford one toast and a coffee. My driver always had a full breakfast, bacon egg sasauge and tomato with two toast(gready get).lol. No wonder I was skinny. Excellent capture, lovely sculpture. Bravo!!!!!

Splendid capture ;O) The different accents and pronunciations are all around the world, you must hear an Andalusian person that seem to forget all the "S" in their vocabulary or the north Spanish people that seem to speak with a lovely melody, almost singing, it's funny. Where I live (South Spain, now) we are lots of british people and it's a splendid mess seems we all got together, he he he!

I like the tone of this picture... these two statues are well wonderful (and indeed, the car in the background is a pity...) but anyway, a great image !

Nice capture Alan, and an interesting narrative on the word play. That American was way off, maybe he thought he was in a foreign country and English wasn't spoken there. Its funny how place names sometimes get butchered, Sig....

Tourists have fun with our place names too ... especially the Maori ones. Wonderful image and text Alan

Very nice capture of this piec of art. Metal artwork is very difficult. I like the b&w and your little story about accent and pronounciation :-) Hugs Virginie
