Description

I want to thank all the other artists who have taken the time to view, comment and fav my last image. As usual, you overwhelm me with your kind comments and make me smile. Thank you. :o) I have been tracing my ancestors for over thirty years and it has been an interesting, intriguing and sometimes frustrating journey. I have found that on my mother's side my ancestors were in this country by 1624 of English, Irish and Scottish ancestors. On my father's side it is pure Russian and they immigrated to the USA just before the Russian Revolution. I was working on my genealogy (it is never done) lol and started to think how frightening and exciting it must have been. My grandfather came about a year ahead of grandmother to find work and a place to live. My grandmother then came with my uncle who was only three at the time. Alone on a ship that took fifteen days, in cramped quarters, not speaking the language and $27.00 dollars in her pocket. They were three of millions that came through the gates of Ellis Island to a better life in the Land of Milk and Honey. After going through the rigors of Ellis Island and they passed, they went out on a dock and waited for the ferry to take them to the 'mainland,' Manhattan and a new life. I wondered what their reaction was when they looked over and saw, for them this massive island with tall buildings in the distance, knowing their journey was almost over. Hence the image. A family waiting for the ferry and looking across at their new life. This is dedicated to all the immigrants who came through Ellis Island all those many years ago ... this does not diminish the pioneers who left their homes and went south and west to a better life. They had a whole different kettle of fish to deal with. But that's another story. :o) Daz-Victorian coat for V3, Laura RNDA-Legends M3 Daz-Tiny Tim, Morning Hair RNDA-Victoria cowl-freebie Wharf-me made in Bryce Background-me

To all the immigrants who travelled across unsafe seas and braved the unknown. What a wonderful image. I can't trace my lineage as everyone had their names changed. Just know that I'm a mutt :) The Irish part came from Durras in Copnnemara Gallway but the German, Scottish, English and French is a mystery :) Good luck to you!

that is a very impressive image.. and I can only hope that it will get over 6 pages full of comments and only 5 ratings.. although it deserves a 10 !!! Super !! imagine the adventure in those lifes.. suddenly there was a New Land.. we can't imagine how that was.. unless we think of Mars.. but that is still far away.. They haven't even been able to put a camera on the moon that shows us how The Lunar Eclips looks as seen from there (a solar eclips +)

love your story...it's lots of fun, though sometimes frustrating, to do a genealogy...on my father's side my great grandfather came to the US from england in 1855 at the age of 9--all by himself no less...both my mother and i arrived in the US just after WWII...so we are relative new comers ;) your scene is terrific...you've captured the emotion/hopeful expectations of the new immigrant perfectly...great job on the wharf by the way!

This is a marvelous scene! Poser crashes when I use more than 2-3 characters. My ancestors came here in 1844 - the men wanted to avoid the Prussian army, LOL!

Oh my, Alexis, this is breathtaking work! No wonder I'm so far behind, I've been gazing at this for awhile now, feeling the sea breeze, smelling the salt air, hearing those gulls mewling and the waves breaking against the docks .. Your attention to details is just amazing!
