Description

The Grumman F2F/F3F series of 1930s fighters didn't have an official nickname. Some of the naval aviation lads did give it the "Flying Barrel" nickname for obvious reasons. Although none of this type saw combat in WWII, they served on aircraft carriers until the summer of 1941. They were replaced by Grumman's monoplane F4F-3 "Wildcat." This F3F-2 is another resident of the museum at Scholes Field in Galveston, Texas.
