A lovely pastoral scene, looks like this side of the hill is good shelter for the sheep. Nice composition.

I like this a lot, Rozanne. It reminds me of my second cousins' sheep farms. One of them has an Iron Age ( c500-550AD )'cashel', or fortified ring fort, down from the main farm house. This 'cashel', on Altagore townland( 'high goat' land )has been used for well over 1000 years as a sheep/goat and probably cattle shelter. It did not suffer too much from its stones being taken for other buildings over the centuries. All the fields and land have plenty of their own! Dry-stane dykes were still a local speciality, when I was a boy. This ruin made an outstanding playground for my brothers, sisters, cousins and visitors, although there was a deep ravine and a tricky, stony burn or stream to traverse, if one went as the ravens flew. There are nice photos of it at www.northantrim.com/torrscenicroadtwo.htm, and www.irishmegaliths.org.uk/zAltagore.htm. The wee white house at the top if the hill is my gran's old place. The clouds in your 'Notanisland' shot look quite familiar as well .. ;o) I hope that yours pass you by. Regards, John.

Well, I'm new to this site and wanted to say hello & leave my first comment, so I chose the most recent item. I had no idea you did photography too! Having just perused a few shots, I'm struck by yet another area you embrace with magic and vision, only this is another side to your soul, quiet, restive and very spacious. I love the way the sheep grow out of the midground and act like plaintive punctuation marks, gentle sparks on a green carpet...How did I not know you photographed? And you have oil paintings too? Do you dance, do mime, split the atom? Well, this is my only stop on the web today, so I'll say hello, say I'm impressed, and I'll be back. I'm "Ma Yuan" here (a name that takes guts to use, since he was one of the masters of Chinese art), but you know me as Mark from Freesounds (Hammerklavier, thanks to Ludwig van), and I shall be back! (Someone should get a video of what's going on with my flu: Microorganisms not only moved into my chest, they threw a convention last night, had a 200 plate dinner---they support Barack Obama [they're American microorganisms]---and are planning a parade in the morning. They sent me a note, "wish you were here". Considerate little buggers.) Nice to find another venue of yours, R! Will be back! (by the way, we don't have sheep in Chicago. We have cold and snow and wind and a lotta dogs. I saw a duck the other day---but he was just visiting.) All good things; will return! M
