Naive copying is not as thorugh as some think. For instance Des Cartes' "I think therefore I am." can be compared to the materal witness of a burning bush saying " I am the I am" or more to plagiarism. Lincoln saying, "look not at the mote in another man's eye but look to the log that is in your own" thus paraphrasing Jesus Christ the red letter master.
