Description

In The Great Scheme of Things You could smell the fear on everyone’s clothes that day. A smell I will never be able to cleanse from my nostrils. It was poignant with a sting that imbedded itself permanently in memory assuring recognition for the rest of ones days. “Did you hear?”, they let the GM go, can you believe it??” “Hey wasn’t he a partner in this company?” “How could that happen?” “Yeah, their letting people go by the bus load!” A quick pass in the hall, a small bit of talk, confirmation though the email, one after another---terminated -- removed. It happened so quickly, no one had time to run. Damage control came in by way of men in black suits, fancy ties…. I sat and waited, my day completed amid the ciaos, a full day and I was tired, I let the fear eat at me. “May we come in?” “Let me introduce myself, I am, A Big Head of Hot Air, III/CEO/COO/IDOT, and I have the unfortunate job of letting you know that your position has been eliminated, sign here” ...passing my pen over the paper felt surreal, I realized I was still alive and it wasn’t as bad as the anticipation. When the lay-offs happened where I worked, I was quite thrilled. I hated the shoddy management, the addle-brained supervisors, and I had unemployement to collect for a little while. Then unemployment benefits ran out, and reality sunk in. Empty wallet syndrome was a sad reality. Fortuantely for me, hubby worked, and I was able to become a stay-at-home lazy bum! I hope that this change brings better things to you, that life continues to be good.
