Description

A "rare" surviving photograph from a failed, top-secret terraforming project (circa 1912) on Phobos, using polar ice from neighboring Mars to flood portions of the surface. I learned a lot putting this project together. The rocket is a V2 model (http://www.starbase1.co.uk). I figured out how to model and add simple and believable thrust, and learned a lot about atmospheric lighting controls. I created a custom terrain and added a simple ecosystem. After the final render, I used Photoshop (CS2) to create an aged photo look. This one was definitely a lot of fun.

Beautiful classic SF piece. Only one suggestion: maybe some cloude-smoke and steam where the engine exhaust is hitting that small lake? The overall piece is really good.

Thanks for the smoke/steam suggestion - I was uploading an attempt at that when your comment came through. I may tweak it once or twice more in the coming week. If you force a refresh on the thumbnail or full image, you should see the latest image. Thanks again!
