Description

We left this day around nine in the morning from the harbor town of Pythagorion to visit the islet of Samiopoula (Little Samos), located on the south of Samos at a distance of about 850 meters. We were taken there by captain Vassilis and his little boat which could hold about 25 people. After half an hour's boat ride we were offered a cup of retsina (resin wine), a good beginning of the day! Samiopoula has few inhabitants, some 2 to 5, and a herd of wild goats. It measures about 2.15 km in length and is about 700 meters wide. There is a small but beautiful white beach. Most of the terrain is rocky with very few trees and several species of wild bushes, shrubs and wildflowers. This shot was taken from captain Vassilis' boat while we approached Samiopoula. It was not so easy to keep the horizon straight!
