Description
I have been trying to get a shot of this one dove for nearly a year now.
This is an Eurasian Collared Dove like this one that I posted a month ago. They are the familiar grayish brown of most doves that you see. But this little beauty is the palest cream color with a sprinkling of white feathers. She and her mate come only occasionally, and are very skittish when I appear with my camera and are quick to fly. I've tried dozens of times to get a shot of her, and this early morning backlit shot was the best I have been able to get. When she is sunlit on the ground, she fairly shines!
About a year ago, I posted an image of a pure white Leucistic Red Tailed Hawk. . Leucism is a condition where the animal lacks the pigment in the skin cells to produce the normal pigmentation specific to each breed of animal. It can produce any combination pale or white feathers, a single feather, patches of feathers or all the feathers. Unlike albino animals, which always have red or pink eyes, because of the lack of melanin, leucistic animals have normal eyes. It is what distinguishes albinism from leucism and leucistic animals are often mistaken as being albino. It's always such a joy when she and her mate come to visit, and many times I just stand, watch, and admire, never even reaching for my camera.
Thank you for taking the time to view and comment. I appreciate it.

Djeez, Maria, do you have all these birds trained or what ;-) They always sit so comfortably in your photo's, it's almost like you painted them there. Gorgeous image!
