Description

My wild bird shots are always in dim light and trees. So, this bright red male Cardinal came and stayed..behind the branches. Breeding season is coming up and the brightest red appears the best, from the males point of view. This is not so much a technical bird shot, not at all. This is how it was and is. I do love watching the critters and once in a while getting a photo of one. Nikon DSLR, Sigma 100-300mm f/4. Shot at f/4, ISO 400, 1/2000 sec, 300mm. I had more light than I thought. Camera metered with small center weighted area.

I have the same trouble with them. I wish they were as bold as the robins are. They let me get real close.

I love cardinals! They are not in this area, sadly. Wonderful capture. :o)

The DOF makes this a very dreamy looking photo, I like it. They are fascinating creatures, aren't they? : )

I always loved shot "as it is" Nothing more natural than capture any wildlife in their place in a wild. Bright good red color and a cross tree banches is realy great, like this little bird looking out of a window.

Fantastic image...the brilliance of the cardinal is a wonderful contrast to the more muted "softer" almost monochrome surroundings. I love the fact that you captured this bird while it was looking elsewhere...it adds to the whole mood of the piece and reveals a more natural vibe. Fantastic work.

As a child, I wondered at the sight of the royal cardinal and his court, the rusty-orange breasted blue bird. I have not see one of those blue birds since those days but I still love to sit and watch the cardinals flitter. This is a very lovely capture that carries a very lovely memory for me.
