Wild Mute Swan (Cygnus Olor) (swan series nr 1) The Mute Swan ( Knobbelzwaan = Dutch) was quite rare in the 1960-ties in the Netherlands, but now-a-days very common and not restricted anymore to parks!! Their current number in the Netherlands is estimated at approximately 20.000! A few couples of Mute Swans are living in the dunes between Zandvoort and Noordwijk. This area (dunes) has been used for the filtration of potable water for Cities like Amsterdam (water from the main rivers was pumped into the dunes for purification and filtration of the water). Dogs are not allowed in this area, and you need to buy a ticket if you want to walk in this beautiful area where you find not only lots of birds and ducks, but also deers and foxes!! Photo has been taken yesterday in the dunes near Vogelenzang. Both cygnus and olor mean "swan", in Ancient Greek and Latin, respectively.)

Oooh, Henk... you are starting a swan series... You know I'm gonna love it ! This shot is already fantastic...these birds are so majestic and elegant in all their attitudes !
