Description

Something to eat? (swan series nr 3) Wild Mute Swan (Cygnus Olor) ( Knobbelzwaan = Dutch) The water in the Dunes can be Crystal Clear, it’s funny to see the head of the swans under water. Photo has been taken earlier this week in the dunes near Vogelenzang. Thanks for your time, Have a very nice day Henk The Mute Swan (Cygnus Olor) ( Knobbelzwaan = Dutch) was quite rare in the 1960-ties in the Netherlands, but now-a-days very common and not restricted anymore to parks!! Their current number in the Netherlands is estimated at approximately 20.000! A few couples of Mute Swans are living in the dunes between Zandvoort and Noordwijk. This area (dunes) has been used for the filtration of potable water for Cities like Amsterdam (water from the main rivers was pumped into the dunes for purification and filtration of the water). Dogs are not allowed in this area, and you need to buy a ticket if you want to walk in this beautiful area where you find not only lots of birds and ducks, but also deers and foxes!! The Mute Swan (Cygnus Olor) is a common Eurasian member of the duck, goose and swan family Anatidae. Both cygnus and olor mean "swan", in Ancient Greek and Latin, respectively.)

Lovely shot...I always find it amusing how waterfowl point their tails at the sky when they go under, almost as if there's too much air in them to submerge.
