Description

A local landmark to my hometown, Middleton,Manchester, historically in the county of Lancashire. Built 1910. a gradeII listed building. I think it is the only one still standing in the area. Recently been purchased by property developers to be made into 1, 2, and 3 room appartments. I'm eager to know what the changes will bring. I've been trying to find some history about the mill but have had no luck on any local sites. Built during the height of the textile industries, Cotton and Silk, Lancashire was an area chosen for the manufacture of cotton materials because of the damp climate.

Fascinating 'abstract' that the surface of the building makes.

A very imposing building and part of our heritage from the days of Cottonopolis .. I suppose they must have been bleak places to have had to work in.. But I can imagine that it may look somewhat different in differing light.. A place to return to ..

Excellent capture Alan, and a great pov, like Andrea has pointed out, it does make a great abstract. I had some pictures of this place from round the back, when I was based at the Millfold depot for the council, the bottom yard backed onto the mill and the river running through. Trouble is they were on my PC at work, I used to take thousands of pictures when I was working. I took that many they had to double my space on the server, I used to have twice as much hard drive as anybody else. Being work pictures most of them got destroyed when they retired me. You did OK with the light by the way. Bravo!!!!!

Your pov is stunning on this. The repetition of the windows so closely presented from this angle is dizzying. Fabulous shot, with or without history to give us.

Great picture of history you have here. You might want to try your local historical society for information on the building.

I stayed in a hotel once, can't remember the name, Top end of Manchester near the square with all the fountains, that was an old cotton mill. They are great buildings, far too good to demolish. It's best to reuse them. This is a superb photo! Give one the real scale of the place!

Wonderful capture of days gone-by architecture. It seems everything is being made into apartments and condos, these days, because they are so needed. Excellent capture and explanation to go with it. ;o)
