Have a very Happy Birthday, Kathleen. Thanks for the dedication. I do like kittens, but one did not like me once. As a young lad, maybe 4-5 years, I walked into a dark farmhouse near my grans to collect some buttermilk for her baking. Old Mrs McKay told me to sit down on a bench opposite the range ( wood or peat burning stove ) while she fetched the buttermilk from their milking shed. It was so dark that I did not see a wee black kitten they had taken in. It was black, sitting on a black linen covered settle, in the dark. So when I went to sit on it, not seeing it, it let out an awful screech and rushed out of the room, almost tripping up Mrs McKay who was returning at that point. I think both the kitten and I got a shock at the time. Ever after it kept out of my way, poor little thing. Kids have the right idea about birthdays, Kathleen. Since birthdays come once a year or so, they should be enjoyed all day. That means getting you up early, even if you normally have to get them up to go to school or nursery. I hope that you all had a good day, and that your children's baking efforts were edible.. 'o) ... at least lots of chocolate! Happy Birthday and a Happy St. David's Day to you too.
