Thanks both, I really can't seem to get away from that colour, as my wife has a thing for cherry coloured wood, and burgandy fabrics, so everything sort of has that tint to it hahaha.

I like the concept, but there are a few things that are distracting to my eye. The image as a whole is leaning to the right. It throws off the balance of the composition. There are objects in the photo that take focus away from the main subject. (that leaf shaped object top center for example) The image also appears to be a bit on the soft side. It doesn't seem to be in focus. Did you hand hold or use a tripod? Shooting in dim light, such as this, requires lower exposure/shutter speed settings, which can cause blur if the camera is hand held. That area on the neck of the violin is blown out (overexposed). Experimenting with you cameras exposure compensation can help...also try using something (like tissue paper) to diffuse the light more evenly. Hope my feedback helps. I know you're just starting out in Photography. It takes practice & ALOT of experimentation. Keep at it and ask questions (the Photo Forum is a GREAT resource here for that!)

The image as a whole is leaning to the right. It throws off the balance of the composition. Yeah I built the scene on a cat house by the window, I also had the camera off to the side and tried to tilt the tripod around to get it straight but still not too sure what knobs do what with that There are objects in the photo that take focus away from the main subject. (that leaf shaped object top center for example) I cropped the original image, in the original one there is much more to look at...I will post the up edited one up in the forum The image also appears to be a bit on the soft side. It doesn't seem to be in focus. Did you hand hold or use a tripod? Shooting in dim light, such as this, requires lower exposure/shutter speed settings, which can cause blur if the camera is hand held. The original is much cripser, I had to save out at about 80%jpg to be able to fit the size restrictions here. I was using a tripod, do not really remember what settings were on the camera in the picture as I was turning dials and changing settings all the while I was playing. That area on the neck of the violin is blown out (overexposed). Experimenting with you cameras exposure compensation can help...also try using something (like tissue paper) to diffuse the light more evenly. Hmm I liked that LOL, I will look to the settings and manual for tweaks, I also have been viewing the tutorial at the canon site...so I prob (hopefully LOL) get better.

Color is good suit my taste for this kind of still life. thou too many other things takes my attention away from a wonderful shape of the violin. Exspl: What ever reason I want to read what is on a bottle and the other two things on a left. If you would have a music note book (I guess you do)try to set up that with an instrument. Things what is relited to the music and/or violin. Perhaps even a single red rose or a soft silk shawl should work harmoniously. But a very good start.

To save the image for rosity could you have not reduced it in size and thenin Photoshop selected "save for web" I cant see any reason why you should have lost a lot of sharpness saving the image for use on rosity. Good start though
