Description

Captured 2/23/08, around 7 AM, about .5 miles/.805 kilometers from my residence. It may not look it, but this was once a proud Ford F-150 truck, apparently still operational, but evidently neglected and let gone to pot. I don't know about those parts of the world that experience extreme conditions, such as high salt content/humidity in the air and/or freezing sleet and snow, but a vehicle in this shape is rarely seen on the highways and byways of sunny Southern California. That said, babuci's macro of a rusty metal surface reminded me of this photo, so I thought I'd post it as my contribution to the oxidizing genre. If nothing else, it makes for an interesting texture. I would have preferred a frontal three-quarter POV shot, but was prevented in doing so because the front yard is chain link fenced off and locked, perhaps in fear that someone might want to steal the vehicle. Ridiculous? Who knows in this upside down world? Quite a contrast to my series on Iceland poppies, eh what? Man's inhumanity to his equipment. Thanks for the look-see, and have a thriving and thought provoking Thursday.

Nice work. I see a lot of this type of vehicle in Hawaii. I have always wondered how they pass the safety inspection???? Too bad all things must age. Aloha

This truck condition is not so bad...considering still running. I am sure a list would be endless how many different things was "traveling" on a cargo. Wonderful rusted shot Harry. I don't mind a back tree-quarter POV, love the FORD sign in this reddish color.

sure is an old California license plate, the car in front of it appears to be a 70's monte carlo but I am not the car expert on here and I couldn't zoom on it close enough it also has a older plate.. a little fence kept you out ?? wink..

I think he's sanded down through the umpteen coats of paint to prime it and do a restoration... the tail lights look new(er)... LOL Purty truck, I favor this kind of truck style, my Silverado is a (reg cab) step-side short bed... fairly useless for hauling anything big but a nice street truck. Nice capture, good POV all things (and fences) considered... grin

Debwhosmiles: You may be right about the attempt at restoration, but I think it's a lost cause.

LOL, this truck has seen few miles for sure. I drove a 79 Olds for 12 years, and IT was turning into a rust bucket. When you live in area that gets upwards of 50" of rain a year and have no garage, that's what happens!! But I found that foam in a can, filled all the holes, and got to be quite an expert at sanding and painting them all. At one point I had to drill holes in the floor to drain the water out of the car, it was like high tide when I drove it!! Anyway, back to YOUR truck, great shot!!

Either a work in progess or a slow death..either way it's a money pit..:) And any car (or truck) shot is a good shot..:)

A nice capture of this very interesting truck! There are many in these parts with similar paint jobs, although not many are road worthy. Perhaps someone started to restore this and got bored. Poppies and pickups ... you are a man of many interests, and I enjoy viewing the results! :)

I think it's great, a lot more interesting than shiny stuff you dare not park in case it gets coined allong the wings by some jealous yob!

This looks to have spent some time in the desert, maybe even near Virginia City. The taillights instead the single shield make the total look. No need for methyl chloride to strip it. The metal shows it's not just a tin can.

This is the old farm vehicle of my world! It runs! It's reliable and you don't care what you haul in it or what you might run over (or into). Always fun to bounce through the fields is this sort of thing. Luckily, we all knew how to drive a stick. :-)

LOL, now there's a fixer upper for a teenager's first car. Would be lot of work, and it certainly does have "personality" this way. :) Nicely seen, you come up with the most unusual vehicles in your neighborhood! :))
