These look the same as what we call English sparrows in the US. And they hang around all year, even in harsher climes than Oklahoma.

In England We call them House Sparrows if the male has a big mark on the chest. A smaller mark indicates a Tree Sparrow. I think, given the snow, that these are House Sparrows in winter - the marking would be like this in winter - slightly less pronounced. Great title - interesting idea.
