Description

A B-17 Flying Fortress. It is at Long Beach CA airport this week. I decided to go get a few shots of it taking off for one of its many "pay to ride" flights. This one was built in 1945 but never saw combat. Was nearly scraped in 47, but was bought by Pratt $ Whitney. It now belongs to The Liberty Foundation. Thanks for taking a look. -B

I have seen this plane (or another just like it) and have walked inside...what a view from there! No comforts of home for those flyers. Fine photo.

Fantastic shot. It's amazing that those aircraft are still going strong after all these years.

It is almost too wide a span to connect the here and now B-17 to the factory there in 1945. Especially now that the factory is mostly torn down. Nice to see it fresh.

Way cool shot! I had the pleasure of seeing the B-17G "Thunder Bird" out of Scholes Field in Galveston flying by as I was copiloting the Cessna 421 I posted on March 14. It passed about a mile away and 500 feet below us on the left side, so I wasn't able to get a photo. Your pic more than makes up for it!
