Description

On Jan. 30th, I published an old Renault Sinpar 4WD truck that had been specially modified to carry tourists. This is a similar oldie but goodie 4WD truck which was less modified and is transporting workers. As you see in this typical third world scene, it is heavily overcrowded, and I let you imagine the drama if this upsets, which I saw with another truck some miles afterwards: certainly many pilgrims returning from the Senegalese Moslem place of Touba died the day they went back home (it was a madness day on the road as I will show you on my post to come). Of course it is here a very short distance trip. For longer travels, people ordinarily do not take such trucks. They take the so-called Rapid Buses (Cars Rapides in the French-Senegalese language), that I showed you earlier. Sorry if this image is not sharp as I would like, because it was taken with a telephoto from a moving car and in spite of the quick shutter time it is slightly blurred. I applied a serious Sharpening Filter in Photoshop CS3 to enhance it. But I am very happy of the result, because the elegant pose of the man on the top gives a pleasant composition. If you like this pict, and if you have not seen the 6 earlier ones of this series, you should particularly appreciate these two ones:

Senegal cars 5 – Cars rapides (Rapid buses)

and Senegal cars 6 – For tourists only

Techdata: Nikon D70 with Nikkor 4-5.6/70-300 ED at 155mm, ISO 200, aperture-priority automatic, 1/350s at f/7.1. Sharpening, contrast enhancement and slight cropping.
Do not miss my Senegal Cars 8, coming soon! Very funny sequence, with animals!

Great shot. I have seen similarily overloaded mini-busses in Viet Nam. But in addition to the people it was also carrying chickens, piglets and produce. The center of gravity was so high on these vehicles that one sharp turn of the steering wheel would flip them.
