Description

I once seen one of these magnificant birds swoop down from it's nest, dive completely underwater and come back up with a smallmouth bass that was at least 5 pounds. After I got over the awe factor of what I just wittness I thought to my self. That f'n bird caught more than me in 2 minutes than I had all day. Oh well, I was happy just to have seen him in action. I'll never forget it! The Osprey, also known colloquially as seahawk, fish hawk or fish eagle, is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey. It is a medium-sized raptor, reaching 60 centimetres (24 in) in length with a 1.8 metres (6 ft) wingspan. It is brown on the upperparts and predominantly whitish on the head and underparts, with a brownish eyepatch and wings. The Osprey tolerates a wide variety of habitats, nesting in any location which is near a body of water and provides an adequate food supply. It is found on all continents except Antarctica although in South America it occurs only as a non-breeding migrant. As its other common names suggest, the Osprey's diet consists almost exclusively of fish.

He is the most handsome of flying creatures. You have done him justice.I wish I had seen what you did. It will stay with you forever. We have an evil Sparrowhawk who visits almost daily for free lunches. I hate him, he is so bold and so snatchy, but there again - so very handsome.
