Description

OK, personally, I have lots of trouble with eyes - can't seem to get the pretty glossy, reflectivity that some manage to achieve, so that it will look more realistic. Anyway, I'm learning my way around Carrara finally and LOVE IT (still soooooo much to learn)! This one was fun to do. Thanks for taking time to look! All honest critiques & tips welcome. :)

I love how her skin looks! the perfect amount of bump, the perfect colors. For eyes, if you can add a muted reflection map (just b/w) to the eyewhites it can look very realistic, and repeat it for the corneas--just watch that the highlights don't get too big or you can get hotspots that look odd. It's kind of fun to play with reflections that match the scene she is in--it's suprising how a tiny detail like that can add to a render!

Your skin texturing is very well done. As for your eyes, I found the details on this page very useful for eyes. Mostly about ambient occlusion but you would be surprised the effect that has. http://www.physicalc-software.com/tutorials/ao/ Also, adding a Phong node (lighting -> specular) to the alternate specular for both corneas adds a little sparkle. A straight ray trace reflection will also work so long as the background colour is black. And then you might also try putting in a 5% ambient light to the iris - subtle but draws you in.

Nice work. In order to get the eyes reflective in Carrara, you'll need to have a background for them to reflect in the first place. Your Backdrop can be black and different from the reflected Background but a Background is needed.

Thank you, everyone! I really, REALLY appreciate the tips on how to improve the eyes and I'll try re-working the scene to see if I can improve it. :)

Personally, the eyes look just right for the lighting used to me. This is a lovely render, especially the lighting on the clothing! (For more information than you'll ever want on lighting eyes: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=185&t=411452 .)
