Description

click here is the link to the bottom photo that could have won first place. This photo have the most favorities in my gallery. I was told that by the the person that had the art contest. The judge told her to tell me I was a very good photograhyer. It just my pessention of the work was bad. I had a cream color mat and the fram was cream color too. The judge would have liked a pure white mat and a color fram of some typy not what you see here. Another artist over head her and told me I sure have won first with the photo. say the mat and fram look fine to him. I did not knot this artist but he won in his area he had. The top one you saw too click I have to do my own mats and get my frams on sell. i bought some off the web and they was fine but no glass, just plaisit lol misswpelled] so I had to go and buy glass and cost me $15 more to put the glass in. I bought the mats to cut myself and i order them off the net. I destory the first six just learning to cut and still sometimes I cut it backwards. I can still use the mat but I have to paint it to cover the pen marks I use as a guide to cut the hole. Plus I do it because at the story they will cut it to cover a halve inch around the photo. To me that a lot . I can cut it to cover 1/8 inch around the photo. Hope you learn some here and hope you get the mats and frams better so you can win. thanks for looking and reading and learning

"You coudda been a contenda" in the words of Marlon Brando. Yeah! Yeah! Framing is an art in itself. Just as printing is. That's why I keep my art on the Net as digital. Those offline brick and mortar folks have a lot of issues I don't need.

Congratulations Jocko, your swamp photo was excellent, a very high quality to your photography. I bet you still got a thrill from competing. Standards are always high. I've looked around some exhibitions where the judging is down to the visitors where they vote with a voting form and place in a box. My guess is that the puplic don't judge the frame!

I think you did a very good job with the framing Jocko, especially the top one. The bottom one stands out to me, I would be draw to that one because the frame is a different colour than the rest. I like things that stand out in the crowd, and this does that. Congratulations on the third place(that is still something to be proud of), and now with the knowledge you gained from this competition, here's to the next one. Excellent work, and so nice to meet you. Bravo!!!!!

Congratulation's Jock. You are a great photographer. I would have probably went with a darker frame but the mat I am not to sure of. That is awesome.Sad they are taking the frame and mat to knock down placement tho

Well, it's nice to be able to see you in this shot, and many congratulations on your award, Jock!! Pity about the frame... live and learn, next time you will know how to frame to impress those picky judges.

Ah, one can never figure out judges. Next time you enter it you may win or be refused into the show - never makes any sense to me. Looks darn good I think!

Framing is so expensive and then you have to be careful not to dent the frame once the image is framed. I used to be able to get frames inexpensively but now they cost too much...I have to make my own. Congratulations on 3rd place....a real honor.

Well you've got the courage of a lion just to compete. It looks like everyone else used black frames. I love both of your photographs. I'm not sure the bottom one belonged in color though? Congrats again on placing third. And nice to see your smiling face:)))

You should have won first place, those were fabulous pictures, and probably my faves in your swamp series. I agree with who ever it was that said the judging should be on the pictures, not the framing and matting.

They sure look winners to me Jock. Contest judges are like traffic cops, they will stop you when you are driving safely and doing nothing wrong, then look for some minor fault with your car so they can book you lol!
