Description

Just a quick painted piece between recent commissions to loosen up a little. First time I didn’t use Painter, this picture was completely painted using Photoshop with some custom made brushes. I’m amazed by the painterly look of this one, never thought Photoshop would work that way for me, I had amazing control over the brushes. Its really hard to say for me as I’m a huge Painter fan, but Photoshop is really great for painting digital as well, even if you strive for a painterly look. The whole procedure only took a few hours, the piece was completely finished during one evening, pretty quick for me, I really forced myself to not go to much into detail and keep it sketchy. However, I had a lot of fun, hope you like it a little…

I think this is the first space pic I have seen you do--and it looks excellent! I prefer Photoshop to Painter because I like having the layer tools be so convenient, and I find the brushes easier to create and access--plus as you have discovered the brushes are quite excellent! I never have the "lag" painting with a Photoshop brush that I sometimes get with a Painter brush, where the action is a little slower than my movements on the tablet. And Photoshop never loses my files, either!

Great job Uwe! I can't remember seeing a space picture done by you, so this is quite different from the fantasy paintings you do. I'm preytt amazed this is done with Photoshop, since I always thought images like these can only be done using Painter. They sketchy style looks fantastic. Would love to see some tutorial or how-to image either. :)
