Description

Red Tarn - Lake District - England Yes folks this is in England.Red tarn is the small lake you see in the middle of the image. It is in the Helvellyn range which is the third highest of the Lakeland fells standing at a height of 3118ft.To the left of the image you can see the ridge that is the final climb to Helvellyn which is known as Striding Edge,on the one hand a great walk but on the other has claimed many lives. The drop to the left of the edge is 1500 feet. The word Tarn actually means small lake. This may not be the most spectacular of images but it does show some of some of the wonders of England. It is a five shot stitch pano....it is also a seven mile walk...heavy with camera..lens's and coffee. Eddie

You've really gone "the extra mile" for this fantastic image! Thanks for your information to fill us in on what's behind and involved in this photo. Interesting stuff for sure~ I always think geology when I see landscapes, this reminds me of a volcanic crater lake (ancient) or an impact crater (also ancient)? Or maybe the result of scouring ice in an ice age... =)

Stellar view and exceptional work to give us this outstanding capture. I noticed the paths right away and chose the other path as one I would find more pleasing even if it seemed longer. To have hiked 7 miles to get such a shot tells me much about you.

Great work; well worth all the effort involved - the hike and the stitching. The 2 times I have been up here the mist has come down and I couldn't see a thing, so am deeply jealous!

Lovely landscape, it looks almost like Iceland. I had no idea there was a place in England that looked like this! Awesome image....
