Description

A shot from my trip out along the river... stopped off in a cafe on the way back home with my dad who was on the walk with me and snapped some shots of passers by as it started to bucket with rain! I wont say what i think about the shot but i am interested to see what you guys think - what do you like or dislike about this photo? Why do you think the photo works or doesnt? I have my views obviously but that doesnt matter. Thanks Rich

It does look like snow, more than rain. I would expect a darker sky but it's excellent as is. Great capture, Rich.

This turned out great. It looks like Noah's flood out there.

I like the mistiness top & bottom, and texture of the walls. And of course, I love anything having to do with precipitation, so of course it's going to work for me! :)

LOL Now I've got that "buckets of rain" song going through my head again. Y'all are doing that apurpose, aren't you? Kidding aside, I like this, I've been in rainstorms where this effect happens, the air is so water filled it is like trying to look through a gauze curtain. It's got a sense of realism instead of surrealism to me. : )

Love the image! I feel sorry for the person walking in though. I guess we all suffer for our art but this time someone else is suffering to help create it. Again great image! VERY DRAMATIC!

I like the image as it is in black and white. Not sure color would give me the same type of misery feeling I get from this...so yes it works for me!!

I like it very much! Looks like a charcoal drawing...and a good one at that!

i think its marvelous, great as black and white, her seeming ignorance or oh well attitude tops it off.

The posts coming out of the whitness are nice but not sure that lends to the rain feeling. It does give a good entry to the shot though. The obstructed clear view does give the "buckets of rain" feel to this and the post of the subject shows the weather condtion. I think the only thing I can't get out of this is destination. There is not ending point for her. She's walking in the rain where to what? The composition is ok. I'm more of the visual type and not the technical type so I hope this at least gives some idea to that side of this shot.

I think it works well...like the b/w and high contrast.

IMHO, it works because everyone can empathise with the lass. B/W suits the image and feeling, and the DOF is perfect with everything fading out. It doesnt work in only 2 ways for me, the ground is washed out or in a fog, and I think it would make a better image if you could crop/cut out the person behind the wall. I think if she was the solo figure it would add greatly to the sense of 'Caught out'. Great image.

The bottom is too bright for me; it makes it look like it's raining even harder than it is. But it certainly works for me; we can all empathize with someone getting caught in a downpour, and the B&W seems to emphasize her predicament.

Basically, I agree with Dennis and Joko's comments : somewhat too bright in some parts (although you could see as some kind of high_key shot...) But my first impression remains : I love this image; you managed very well to enhance the hard rain impression. Very good work, Rich ! cheerleader3.gif

fine image - the very bright part at the bottom suggests to me the rain bouncing back, which it does when it's pouring.

For me the whole photo is a bit to bright but the BW does fit in my opinion although it makes the rain look like snow. But the photo has a strong mood and is fascinating the observer!

mmm.... ok, it's impossible to tell if the pic is technicaly right or not, because of calibration of the screen. So, we need to see the original tiff picture to be sure. At the first view, i will say : wow, what an effect, excellent image, well composed with a real atmosphere. You take the shot at the right time. After a moment, i saw that a little bit of noise could be great to add something to the picture, something more 'photographic'. Some parts of the pic are white hard, but the eye come on it very smoothly, so it's not a problem for me. May be on sheet of good photo paper, it could be disturbing. in one word : excellent picture, with a lot of mood, nice tonal range, compo is extra, just the need of realistic touch (noise ?) of course : IMHO and HTH (hope this help lol) See ya ;o)

My first impression is a big WOW, love the cold and loneliness feeiling it has! Maybe a bit darker would just be perfect for it... I would duplicate it and use the deasaturate adjustment (colur burn)... Just an idea ;O)

I like this alot. I don't find it to bright, I love highkey, although this isn't really all that highkey, just misty and rainy. And it does have a drawn effect to it. The only thing that bothers me is the person above the wall it draws my attention to that area. Other wise I thinks its a great B&W photograph.

Stunning high key composition. The graininess adds to the atmosphere, and the soft blur "mist" at the bottom is perfect for the balance. A masterful work as a capture and skillfully extracted in postwork!
