This is dumb: one see the shade of the shuttle on the polar cap. Better render it in scanline.

Did you try decreasing its size and pulling it back toward the camera?

The3dgm: The planet and shuttle are not at scale of course. I cannot use a Mars globe as big as real and the shuttle is not small enough. Even in the following aerobraking serie this problem persists. I have to deal with the angles and fake the scale ratio with the camera very close to the shuttle. But sometimes it's not enough.
