Description
Hello friends!
I'd like to ask a favour of you, hopefully we know each other well enough for me to pop such a question. ;)
This rose I gave my boyfriend a few days ago, encouraging him in his effort to stop smoking. He is daily battling the small demons swirling around his head, whispering "Just one cigarette, couldn't do no harm.." in his ear.
I try my very best to encourage him and feed him chocolates as a substitute, but then it suddenly struck me:
This place being crowded with supportive people, I am sure you folks have plenty of wisdom and encouragement to share!
So here comes the request: Please share whatever support or experience you have, to help him fight those smoke demons.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks for your comment Ana. He has not used Nicorette, but a medicine called Champix, that takes the edge from both the urge to smoke and the taste if you do. This non smoking project is now in it's 6 month(and rather successful, I might add), but right now harder for him as he is trying to do it without any chemical help.

Beutiful rose! The habit is a tuff one to kick. I watched my father and my grandmother both fight urge to stop smoking. I can be done but it is an uphill fight. Best wishes and prayers for you both.

Ohhhh! Now THAT's a gorgeous rose!--and as a former owner of a commercial greenhouse, I know what I'm talking about. Grin. As for your boyfriend, addictive cravings will eventually subside if he can just hang in there. Again, as a former speed addict, who quit cold turkey (not a good idea!) I have had similar cravings for a different substance. My twin brother smoked for many years but in his late thirties managed to finally quit after several tries. I will share a funny story, though. Back in the 60s, when the little mini tape recorders were the big electronic item to buy, my family all got a bunch and we had a sort of "round robin" tape that we would tape our letters and news and send on to the next sibling, then that person would add theirs, and so on. On one, my brother was trying to quit and hadn't had any for several weeks, but it was obvious that he was struggling. About halfway through his news, which was delivered with increasing agitation,I heard; "F__ it! I'm going to the store to get some smokes!" You could hear the recorder abruptly switched off. A moment later--on the tape, several days by his own admission--he resumed his family news in a much calmer voice. I always kidded him about that years later, but he never thought it was funny. I'm not sure if your fella will find it funny either, but it does illustrate how incidiously difficult it is to quit. I congratulate him on his decision with great empathy and caution that if he does slip, let it be for that one time or day, don't beat himself up about it but resume the "program" and keep on it to a healthier, happier life.

Not being something I've had experience with, I don't know what you tell you. But, you might ask mickuk50 - he just quit and could have some advice. Good luck to both of you!!

A beautiful rose and capture, dear Eva It is an uphill fight to give up the smokes. I have tried many times I wish your boyfriend all the best. It is the only way forward for him. It is a horrible habit. I feel ashamed that I still smoke..... Diane.
