Description

This could be a typical Northcentral Kansas scene or perhaps up in the Nebraska Sand Hills country. Cottonwoods are members of the Willow family of trees, so wherever you find them, you know a water source--be it underground spring, streambed, or watershed--is nearby. If you see a solitary one as in this picture, you know its roots have tapped into a hidden spring. Cottonwoods have wonderful shiny green leaves that sparkle when the wind makes them tremble and in the late fall they turn a brilliant golden yellow that is just gorgeous against a clear, deep blue autumn sky. In summer, their white seeds float through the air like a magical snowfall at a most improbable time of the year. The jackrabbit had better come to a screeching halt or that red-tailed hawk will pick up his movements and make a meal of him. Unless the grassland has been burnt off in spring--usually late March through early April round here--the grass looks much as you see here. Lots of dead grass with bits of green pushing up through it. Thanks for looking. Comments appreciated. Jeremy CREDITS: Flink's Grass Textures (Renderosity). I don't think that rabbit is going to make it to Easter. Nice scene and background info. I'll have to remember that next time I'm stranded and thirsty in the great plains and, um, I have a shovel with me...

Very nice image and composition, very true to life!My only crit would be that,on my monitor, the tree itself appears flat...the foliage looks 3d but the tree trunk doesn't.Anyway,a great image with a great POV!

I think there's a coyote just over the rise, lol. Excellent ground texture and action here.

This is missing a JRT ... trying to decide between a handy tree and a running rabbit. heh heh.
