Description

This is a male Long-tailed Duck from the zoo. These ducks breed in the Arctic and winters along both coasts of North America. They are distinctive among ducks in plumage, molt sequences, foraging behavior, and vocalizations. He just seemed to look so sad to me. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

The poor little guy does look sad. He sure has an interesting color pattern in his feathers, on his beak, and even his eye seems like it is an odd color. He should be happy knowing you took such a good picture of him.

Its hard to say; I was recently at the zoo, too, and it seemed many of the animals I saw there weren't all that happy. This is a nice photo though; I love the pov here; and you can see under the water at his feet :)

What a great POV, Dennis! I've never been able to get this low. Must be through glass, considering the haze. Beautiful duck and lovely shot!

It's that little eyebrow wrinkle and the downturned bright color on the bill. Sweet portrait!

I was wondering the same thing. Was he in a tank or you had waterproof housing on your camera???? Great shot for sure. I hope you made him smile a little. Happy Easter. Aloha :-)
