Description
February 27, 2008 hiking around in Palo Duro Canyon state park in the "panhandle" of Texas.
The sun is going down below the rim and we're still about 3 miles from the trail head. Before long it would be dark enough that seeing the trail, at times, became an issue but the night was clear and the weather just perfect... so many stars in the sky! The coyotes behind us (not too distant) added a wonderful ambiance and probably helped us to maintain a pretty brisk pace ;) Lori, my hiking companion, of course allowed me to walk behind as a rear guard, LOL!
Excerpts from the web site...
"The Canyon is 120 miles long, as much as 20 miles wide, and has a maximum depth of more than 800 feet. Its elevation at the rim is 3,500 feet above sea level. ... Early Spanish Explorers are believed to have discovered the area and dubbed the canyon "Palo Duro" which is Spanish for "hard wood" in reference to the abundant mesquite and juniper trees."
I hope life is as Wonderful for you ALL
and Thank you so much for taking the time to look!!

Seems like Zane Grey wrote the Palo Duro into a couple of books... Nice view! You had a great vantage point looking into some of the length of the canyon~
