Description

My realtionship with New York City is that like Ichabod Crane I woke up one day in my car on a tree lined side street on the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge. Opportunistically, I arrived at a convenience store at 10 Downing Street and bought chocolate milk. I had spent a few days in the Petworth section of Washington, DC library reading the New York Times. I read about the alphabet area South of Houston but did not really access that area. I had first entered Manhatten the night before through the Holland tunnel. That put me in an area of warehouses similar to an area I knew from my grandfather's suppliers in Rochester, NY. I knew that a man from Jasper, Indiana lived on Riverside Drive. He was a young Goldwaterite in the 60's. His interest was political science. Only someone like the Ford Foundation could keep track of both Greenfield Village and the RAND corporation. I doubt that either Henry Ford or Donald Douglas had any interest in both of those entities. I was in a yellow Pinto MPG station wagon with steel belted radial tires and an Americanized to 2.5 liters and no boom GK four cylinder German design and a ZF 4 speed. I bought my first mango that day in Spanish harlem. I also bought and smoked a cigar. One has to be urbane when one is attracting attention. The feelers were tasting. Reports were going out. At some point it was time to exit. An irritant can only persist so long.

If you like me wonder where the radiator is I recommend this rather long treatise on the Curtiss K-12/C-2/D-12. The Supermarine float plane with skin cooling is also recommneded reading. Later, with jets, don't forget the fuel as a heat sink and even auxiliary power fluid.

A purple biwing with a terrific spinner on the nose! I suspect it's equipped with a 27mm Mauser BK27 cannon, AIM-7 Sidewinder and perhaps some Maverick missiles. A most comprehensive travelogue you posted this time around.

Certainly in Hoboken, Jersey City and Hudson County, in general, there are many grave exposures that need to be attended to, ... Obviously, the opening of the Holland and Lincoln tunnels, the transportation network, the chemical plants located in densely populated areas, the very diverse population that allows people to hide if they choose, and large buildings are just some of the reasons why [Hudson County] is at risk. Oh yes,...and very exquisite modeling done here! she seems a happy camper hunkered down back there!
