Not sure about the canvas effect. Maybe a film grain filter would work better if you're looking for a gritty effect. Also, on his left arm there is some dubious anti-aliasing. Rendering at a higher res then reducing the size could solve this or, failing that a little bit of work with an airbrush eraser would get rid of it. I'm no photoshop expert though!. Great character though and the scene works well. Keep it up. :D

Lighting, perspective and everything -- great! The detail level is the only thing that brings him out of it for me, but not too badly.

I don't think it is an anti-aliasing issue. Did you render your character and then cut him out in photoshop and add the background later? If so you may want to use a layer mask for this. Also I would get rid of the canvas line effect. Play about with your curves and add some new colour and softlight layers with some colours sampled from the background image and adjust the opacity until you come up with something you like. Add a bit of noise to get that photographic paper effect. Really cool model by the way.

.:I agree with MINTY1974. If you try applying various levels of different filters and adjustment layers over both the background and character you'll get it a little more uniformed - but I'm not so sure I'd do too much with it, I love the look you've given it!:.
