Description

morning all :o) second shot .after climbing the pole they make for these platforms to enjoy a sit down meal .there were about 10 poles placed inside the enclosure and varied meats are nailed up .yesterdays pic was a hard one to get as it was a matter of seconds from being let out to climbing the pole and back down again .i was positioned and ready to take the shot but being on a wooden bridge with people jostling for the best position did`nt help :o).. have a great day and take care and most of all thanks for looking mick some info on these beauties for you The Sumatran is the smallest sub-species of tiger alive today. Its fur is shorter than that of other tigers, and its coat darker in colour. Sumatran tigers also have prominent tufts of fur on the cheeks. These are more pronounced on the males. The dual threat of habitat destruction and illegal poaching are pushing this magnificent animal towards extinction, with only around 400 animals left today. The tigers habitat, mainly lowland forest, has been severely reduced and fragmented - up to 80% has already been lost, mainly because of human activity. As a result of this destruction, the available natural prey, wild pig, sambar and barking deer, have also declined. The loss of habitat and of prey species has brought the tiger into increasing conflict with local people within the tigers range.

Eating all those feathers, I wonder what size fur balls they cough up. I feel sorry for any caged animal but looking at the stats here, it's the only way to keep some species and save them from extinction. I know zoo's around the world have breeding programs for all sorts of species to try and prevent inter breeding they swap animals or loan studs out. It really is a shame how we rape and pillage our world for natural resources so much we endanger the lives of our wild life. Fantastic information Mick, you know I like that with any pic. Superb capture of this majestic big cat. Bravo!!!!!

excellent capture mick and beautiful sumatran tiger but i feel so sad that us humans think we have the right to take over the whole planet, it's scary when you see just how much damage we have done to the anmial kindom and there natural habitats when will it ever stop, i feel when it's far too late.

I always wondered if there were nutritional value in feathers. I'm sure they don't taste very good. Our tiger friend doesn't seem to mind it too much. That must have been quite a sight. As far as crowds, it seems I don't get bumped until I'm trying for a telephoto shot. They always come out worthless. ;o) Oh well.

When the kids were little and we ordered a pizza, I always got one with mushrooms on it and onions (along with the assorted meats and cheeses). One kid didn't like mushrooms and the other didn't like onions so I would tell them to just pick off the part they didn't like and stop complaining. :-) Guess that works in the animal kingdom too. That's one happy face right there. Fantasic capture.
