Born in Hilo, Hawaii and class of '66, I became very active in Barbells, Judo and love striking the heavy/speed bag. I've learned to Rollerblade and bike ride which is a very health sport. But time doesn't stop for anyone including for me. So my good friend Dave aka punaguy got me started in taking pictures. I'm having fun taking pictures especially hiking the mountains. I'm enjoying seeing the world thru your post on Renderosity. Mahalo and Aloha....Errol

beautiful capture.

OMG, what an eerie sight! Reminds me of the blob in the movies, THE BLOB. That sure looks like an evil eye about halfway up the body of the creature, really looking forward to gobbling up the vulnerable fern plant. And the front of the hot gray lava looks like pincers. Super capture!

They'll go out in a blaze of glory, for sure. Another wonderful image in this set, Errol. Something I've noticed in these is the large area of the new flow with glowing spots. I don't know if it's hotter than usual, or there's more of it at the surface, or what, but this is quite different from what I saw a year ago.

Almost looks like a burnt loco moco..... Nice shot. Aloha

Dennis...During the long ongoing eruption from Pu'u O'o volcano, it had developed a large network of lava tubes and in the direction towards the sea. A lot of lava was travelling underground yet some will come out to the surface as seen from our past hikes. But with this newest fissure outbreak, mostly everything right now is surface lava. If it continues like the others did, it will probably develop its own network of lava tubes in time and will follow the same pattern as the others have done in the past. It will all depends what happens at the fissures itself as it could change direction at any moment. We were just lucky to be there at the right time. Call it a stroke of lava luck. Aloha
