Description

Hello all! I almost called this image "A nice butt" or "butthead" lol -but then when i thought about it I thought it sounded kinda cheesy . I captured these two ibexes at play yesterday . ( yesterday we went to the LA Zoo again and I brought my 10 year old daughter and two of her friends so had to keep my eye on the three rambunctious 10 year old girls and try to shoot. "Certainly Goats were not on my agenda at the zoo of what to shoot but these guys caught my attention surprisingly with their huge curving horns. I found it interesting how they butted in a sweet playful way almost sweetly and shyly as if not to hurt one another. I got these two head locked and stuck as well lol! I liked this even though it wasn't the best capture that I got of them - this one mainly for the compo ...(uncropped). Another pocket cam shot that I played with this a bit today to draw it out in paint shop with a bit of my hand painting , softening and smudging. Here is a little info about these creatures! : _________________________________________ The Nubian ibex is a relatively small, mountain-dwelling goat. They are now endangered due to fact that Nubian ibex has been indiscriminately hunted. Poaching, habitat encroachment, and loss of water sources have caused it to be locally extinct in Syria and Lebanon. Even now the horns are placed on the corner of houses to ward off evil spirits. The ibex can be found from Israel to the Arabian Peninsula and in Africa from Egypt and Sudan east of the Nile to north to Ethiopia. They inhabit rugged desert and precipitous cliffs (altitudes of up to 8,500 feet). They mostly graze on grass in the summer; in winter they consume herbs and leaves. They have a heavy body with short and sturdy legs. The male is 30 inches at the shoulder and weighs up to 150 pounds. The horns are thick, curved, and scimitar-shaped, with ridges on the front. Females are about one-third the size of males on average, and also have horns. Both sexes have thick, wooly beards. Powerful limbs, typical of wild goats, facilitate the ibexâs speed and agility through rocks and steep slopes. Nubian ibex are highly gregarious even though they live in separate herds of male and female. Mating season in the fall brings them together, and a new ibex is born about 21 weeks later. Kids are able to stand shortly after birth and can jump the first day. Juvenile males will stay with the female herd of 10 to 20 members until they are old enough to join a bachelor herd. Nubian ibex can live up to 17 years. The males and females both have a goatee!! ______________________________________________ Hope you all had a wonderful weekend ! Thank you for your time and comments!! Love to all! ((( BIG HUGS ))) ~ Kimmers! ♥ :O)

When I saw the thumb I thought, "how did she get them to pose like that??" Then I looked at the image, and thought, "oh - they're stuffed in a museum somewhere." Then I read your caption, and my jaw hit the floor. What fantastic work! Truly awesome.
