Description

My first attempt of shooting with a 400mm Lens. Aquired it last week but not had much chance to take it out cause of the weather being miserable. Been okish today so I thought I take it to the bird hide and try it. Very heavy and despite using a tripod most photos ended up very soft due to not being able to get the right shutter speed. This one is the best of a bunch of ehhh around 150 pmsl. It sure will take some getting used to. C+C very welcome. Rip it to bits so that I know what I am doing wrong or right xxx

Great shot, classic composition, crisp focus and background very diffused! I think you will enjoy using a 400mm lens, small birds are so quick and jumpy, and you have got it right from the start!

nice shot, nothing wrong with it that i can see. the shadow on his left serves to show off his colours, and i like the way he is looking straight at you.

Thank you all for the comments. Here is the data if anyone is interested still...... Taken with a Tamron 200-400mm lens on 390mm focal lens (grr missed some lol) ISO 100 1/400s shutter speed F/ 6.3 Tripod was around 4 meters away from the bird. Post processing - minor crop, sharpening and a slight level adjustment. xxx
