Description

During the days I was in Berlin for my mother's funeral the weather was exceptionally warm and sunny. So the day after the funeral my brother (billcody) and I decided to drive to the Spreewald. The Spreewald is the region along the upper reaches of the River Spree, about 50km southeast of Berlin, that had supplied Berlin with produce before WWII. During the cold war this area was not accessible to West Berliners. Since the re-unification the Spreewald is again instrumental in supplying increasing amounts of produce to Berlin. Because of the 50 some years of forced separation, and less development in the former East versus the West, the entire former DDR (East Germany)is scenically more beautiful than more developed areas in the West. It seems that every little village has a pair of nesting storks (something rarely seen in the West) and the entire regions has wild pigs, deer, swans, Uhus (a large owl found in Germany)and other wildlife rare in the West. In this particular picture my brother is paying homage the the bust of the former owner of this particular real estate. It is no longer privately owned and large areas of the former holdings of the Graf's estate are now parks with ponds and canals. This picture was taken on 26 September 2006. Thank you for viewing and commenting on my previous uploads.

You make it sound a wonderful place Sig. Unspiolt areas are becoming very rare in this world. Nice capture of your brother and its good to see other members, how they look, we sometimes paint a picture in our minds of people, when we are never able see them.

What strikes me is the similarity between your brother and the face of the statue! Is there something you're not telling us here?

I wonder what the proper name for this sort of bronze is, I have always thought of 'Busts' as head only, and full body as a statue or sculpture. I don't think I have ever come across one like this before Sig, a half body. A very unusual(to me) bronze, and as Andrea says, there seems to be a resemblence of your brother here, although the bronze has a tad more hair. Lol. An excellent capture, great clarity and detail, the detail on the bronze is also fantastic, I wonder who commissioned it and who cast it? I must check this out on Wikipedia. Superb work and a great narrative. Bravo!!!!!

@JeffG7BRJ. You know Jeff, a good question. I have never even given it a thought. I know that monuments of horses with riders have different meanings whether the front leg of the horse is raised or if the horse is rearing on its hind legs. But this bust does look kind of strange, Sig...
