Description

As perhaps you can tell, I REALLY love Donner Lake. It's got something special about it, even more than Tahoe for me. I've just gotten to know it in the last few months, and when I win the lottery, I'm buying a house as close to it as I can get!! You're all invited to the housewarming!! Having said that, this is a shot about 1000' above the lake, from a view point just down the road from Sugar Bowl. The eastern most spot (the top) is the beach I posted the other day and my son lives just slightly past that point on the left. The town of Truckee is above the beach, where it's more open. The lake was frozen solid a little more than a month ago, and people were ice skating on it. Right now,the water temp is in the 30's; in the summer it's warm enough to swim in, which I did last August!!

What a magnificent view! Donner Pass has always held a special place for me after being through there as a kid and seeing the trials and tribulations the Donner Company faced. Beautiful and spectacular shot!

Wonderful POV and DOF employed, along with the beautiful snow and trees displayed, in this fine capture, Marilyn! So, that's Donner Lake, one of the storied sites of the great northern California area. Really a beautiful spot.

I want my cabin built just where you stood to take this, with both living and bedroom windows facing this view. Just imagine getting out of bed and opening the curtains to this. On second thoughts forget the curtains, then I can view it in the moonlight as well. Superb vista, I could sit and look at it all day, I've scrolled up to see it four times already. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!
