Description

I went back to the dead flowers of Carbondale Pennsylvania again yesterday. Arriving on a cold overcast day, my motivation was seriously lacking. Overcast light can be great for photos but I like to warm myself in the early morning sun after being forced out of a nice warm bed. As I slowly descended down the hill I photographed any things that caught my eye, mostly dead flowers and pods, until I noticed a flash of bright neon green. Almost toxic in its color, it lured me in like a butterfly to a flower. Out of my walking range, I got to see some small yellow flowers sprouting up amongst the toxic green grass. The photos though, were less than exciting. Getting closer would have involved jumping over a ditch and a short but steep climb up a hill. I did think about it though.... Frustrated and ready to turn around and reverse my path I looked down and noticed this green sludge running like a river. Apparently this is where all the water pools up and this wet environment seems to encourage life to grow a little earlier. Or maybe it's because of the illegal dumping of chemicals...oooh that toxic green hurt my eyes. The sludge lake was less toxic in color and I thought these dead flowers would give the composition some interest. I took some wider shots that show the green color off better than this image but this one was compositionally more attractive to me. Thanks for viewing!
